Two men have been locked up for a combined 30 years after the manslaughter of Damien McLaughlin rocked Enfield.
Convictions at Old Bailey
Eduardo Embalo, 18, from Dowsett Road, N17, was found guilty of manslaughter and possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to 14 years behind bars.
Andre Joseph, 25, of High Street, Enfield, was also convicted of manslaughter and weapon possession. He received a heavier sentence of 16 years.
Both men were acquitted of murder charges.
Fatal Stabbing on Exeter Road
The drama unfolded on Saturday, 22 April, near the junction of Exeter Road and Arbour Road. Police and emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a fight around 1.30pm.
They found Damien McLaughlin, 44, from Springfield Road, Cheshunt, suffering from a stab wound. Despite frantic efforts, he was declared dead at 2.16pm.
Damien had been attacked by three men shortly after parking his van alongside his girlfriend.
Swift Police Action Cracks Case
A post-mortem revealed a single stab wound to the chest as the cause of death. The National Police Air Service spotted Embalo near the scene acting suspiciously, leading to his quick arrest.
Joseph was arrested days later at a nearby address following a police investigation.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command pieced together CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and witness accounts to identify the attackers.
It’s believed Damien knew at least one of his assailants. A third man, Omar Warner, 18, of Marshside Close, N9, was cleared of all charges.
