Brutal Attack in Luton: Two Men Jailed for Rape and Savage Beating

Horrific Assault Caught in Hockwell Ring

At around 12.30pm on Thursday 3 March 2020, police raced to a welfare call in Hockwell Ring, Luton. They discovered a woman in distress — brutally raped, sexually assaulted, and battered with objects including a table leg and a vacuum cleaner pipe. Two men were behind the savage attack.

Jury Convicts Hussain and Nazir

On Wednesday 17 February, Alyas Hussain, 41, of Newark Road, Luton, and Slamet Nazir, 38, of Cavendish Road, Luton, were found guilty at Luton Crown Court. The jury convicted both men of rape, assault by penetration, and wounding with intent.

Her Honour Judge Gilbert slammed the violent pair: “This was an appalling, brutal joint attack. Hussain showed an arrogant belief that she was expendable, speaking to police with contempt. While less involved in the sexual assaults, his violence enabled them.”

Both were handed 15-year prison sentences. Nazir was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Police Praise Public for Critical Intervention

Detective Sergeant Clare Gilbert, leading Bedfordshire Police’s investigation, called the crime “one of the worst levels of violence and fear” she had encountered.

“If not for members of the public stepping in and reporting the attack, the outcome could have been far worse. Their evidence was crucial in exposing Hussain and Nazir’s lies,” she said.

Detective Inspector Michelle Lack urged victims to come forward:

“We will believe you. Our specially trained officers work with expert partners to support victims through investigations and beyond. Reporting offenders is the first step toward justice.”
