Chaos erupted on Week Street last Tuesday night, with violent scenes at fast food shops and stores, leaving staff and customers battered and glass smashed.

Violence and Theft Shake Week Street

From around 7.30pm on March 22, trouble broke out across several Week Street businesses. Furious fights erupted at takeaway outlets, where chairs were hurled and both staff and customers were attacked. The unrest was linked to a spree of alcohol thefts at local shops, including 1, where a glass door was smashed after being kicked in.

More Assaults and Damage Reported

The violence didn’t stop there. A passerby was assaulted on Union Street, escalating the night of mayhem. By 11.45pm, police had swooped and arrested two suspects connected to the disturbances.

Suspects Face a Long List of Charges

  • Cameron Jefferey, 18, from Vale Road, Hawkhurst, was charged with criminal damage, two counts of assault, affray, and assault on an emergency worker.
  • Danny White, 19, of Terrace Road, maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone, faces affray, three counts of assault, two counts of criminal damage (including damage to a police cell), theft, and racially abusing a police officer.

Kidnap Added to Charges

White also faces a serious kidnap charge after allegedly coercing a woman to accompany him to Brenchley Gardens, threatening violence if she tried to leave. Fortunately, she escaped unharmed.

Next Court Date Set

Both men appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on March 24 and were remanded in custody. Their next hearing is scheduled for April 21 at Maidstone Crown Court.
