Violent High Street attack lands two in prison
Early morning assault leaves man with serious injuries
Officers rushed to the High Street at around 3.30am on Sunday, 3 March 2024, after a man and woman were viciously attacked by strangers. The man suffered brain swelling, a fractured skull, and a broken nose. The woman was left with facial injuries.
Attack followed disturbance and white van arrival
The victims had left nearby premises following an earlier disturbance about 15 minutes prior. While the group dispersed, the pair stayed behind and were later ambushed by occupants of a white van that pulled up on the High Street.
Attackers caught and jailed days later
Patrick Holmes and John Hazelgrove, both 29, fled the scene but were quickly identified and arrested by East Kent detectives. They were charged with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and actual bodily harm.
Both pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday 25 June and were sentenced to four years behind bars. Holmes is from Clarendon Street, Herne Bay, while Hazelgrove has no fixed address.
Police vow tough stance on violence in Kent
Detective Constable Georgie Taker said: “Holmes and Hazelgrove are violent offenders whose horrific actions that night have had a devastating impact on their victims. I am pleased they are behind bars and hope it offers some closure to those affected.”
“There is no place for violence on the streets of Kent. We will always strive to bring offenders to justice and ensure our county remains a safe place for people to socialise.”
