Knife-Wielding Duo Jailed After Threatening Dad and Son in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Two men have been locked up after terrorising a father and son with knives and stealing £200 from them in Newcastle-under-Lyme last year.
18-Year-Old and 20-Year-Old Behind Bars
Yusuf Kose, 18, from Meadow Lane, Newcastle, was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders institution at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday (21 March). He admitted threatening someone with a blade in public, breaching a criminal behaviour order, and theft.
Garry Lawton, 20, from Brickhouse Street, Burslem, received a 12-month jail term after pleading guilty to similar knife threats and theft charges.
Victims Lured and Threatened on Douglas Avenue
The court heard how Kose and Lawton flagged down a car on Douglas Avenue on 3 May 2021, pretending to need help. When the vehicle stopped, the pair flashed knives, threatening the father and son inside before snatching a wallet containing around £200.
Police Praise Community and Warn Off Criminals
PC Adam Coomer said: “Kose and Lawton premeditated this theft and caused significant distress to the victims and the wider community.
“I want to thank local residents who helped us with door-to-door enquiries and CCTV evidence.
“These men brandished offensive weapons and sparked serious alarm. I’m pleased justice has been served. We will continue to target offenders using violence for criminal gain.”
Additional Sentencing for Lawton
At the same hearing, Lawton was given a six-year sentence to run concurrently after admitting unrelated charges of assault with intent to rob and robbery from an incident in August 2019.
