Gunman Thomas Anderson Jailed for 20 Years After Horrific Shooting Spree
Thomas Anderson, 22, with no fixed address, was sentenced today at Preston Crown Court for a terrifying shooting incident on October 15, 2019. Armed with a handgun, Anderson opened fire inside a property on Belfield, injuring three men in a chilling afternoon attack.
Three Victims Shot in Broad Daylight
Around 1:30pm, Anderson stormed through a property on Belfield and fired at a 22-year-old man, hitting him in the upper chest and shoulder. He then targeted two other men — a 46-year-old shot in the upper arm and back, and a 47-year-old who suffered an injury to his wrist.
All three victims received emergency treatment on the scene, including air ambulance support. Thankfully, they are now recovering from their injuries.
Gunman’s Desperate Escape Unravelled by Police
After the shooting, Anderson fled on a pedal cycle before ordering a taxi to a train station. Attempting to cover his tracks, he arranged for a second taxi with a different route. However, his escape unraveled quickly thanks to an extensive police probe.
- CCTV footage and mobile phone evidence linked Anderson to the scene.
- A red coat he discarded at Upholland train station was recovered.
- Forensic tests on the jacket found a bullet casing and gunshot residue.
- A discarded mobile phone near the coat tied directly back to Anderson.
Guilty Plea and Stiff Sentence
This year, Anderson pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder, two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of a firearm. Today, the court handed him a hefty 20-year prison sentence.
Police Statement: “A Dangerous and Violent Offender Removed from Our Streets”
DI Steve Monk of Lancashire Police said: “This was a targeted and deliberate attack where Anderson was intent on causing serious harm or fatalities. The violence was excessive, careless, and completely unnecessary.”
“While we may never know his exact motive, we believe he had a grievance with one victim and coldly shot three men in the process.”
“It is pure luck nobody was killed, and thankfully all victims are recovering.”
“Anderson is a dangerous and violent man, and this sentence will keep him off the streets for a significant time.”
“This verdict should bring some closure to the victims and serves as a clear message: we will not tolerate gun crime in Lancashire.”
“I want to commend the entire investigation and prosecution teams for their dedication in bringing justice.”
The case marks a firm stance against gun violence in the area, sending a warning to any who might consider similar acts.
