Norwich thugs sentenced after savage robbery on drunken victim
Brutal Night Attack Leaves Victim Battered
Adam Royle, 46, of Vauxhall Street, Norwich, and Ambrose Draper, 45, from Tracey Road, Norwich, faced Norwich Crown Court today (Friday 10 March 2023). Both men had already pleaded guilty to violent robbery charges.
The drama unfolded in the early hours of Saturday 30 October 2021. Draper spotted the victim walking home after a night out. Without warning, he punched the man in the head, leaving a nasty, deep abrasion before fleeing the scene.
Double Assault and Theft
Not content with the first attack, Draper soon returned, this time with Royle. Together they launched a second brutal assault. The victim suffered serious bruises, swelling, and cuts to his face and hands. The pair then stole his wallet and mobile phone.
But it didn’t stop there. The crooks used the victim’s stolen bank card to withdraw £500 at a cash point.
Police Investigation Leads to Arrests
- CCTV helped police catch Royle. He was arrested on 16 November 2021 and questioned at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre.
- Draper was identified next and arrested on 26 November 2021, also taken to be questioned.
Sentences Served
Today, Draper was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months for robbery and fraud. Royle received a three-year sentence for robbery.
“The violence used against the victim was extreme,” said Sergeant Craig Weir. “I commend him for his bravery and resilience throughout this court process. His family were a great support to him and the police investigation.”
“Strong evidence led both defendants to plead guilty, avoiding trial. Norfolk Police take all violent offences seriously and will prosecute offenders relentlessly.”
