Men Jailed Over Deadly Hackney Wick Nightclub Stabbing
Two men have been locked up following the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old Trei Daley outside The Colour Factory nightclub in Hackney Wick. The shocking incident, which happened on February 11 last year, has finally led to prison sentences for those involved.
Knife-Carrying Duo Sentenced
Mawien Mawien, 39, from Portland Close, Chadwell Heath, received five years behind bars for his part in the violent brawl. During the fight, Trei Daley was stabbed twice, one wound piercing his heart, causing his death.
Judge Mark Dennis KC revealed both Mawien and a second defendant, Christopher Appiah-Blay, 35, were hiding knives in their underwear when tensions erupted.
Mawien was handed a five-year sentence plus an 18-month term to run concurrently. He will serve two-thirds in custody, with the rest on licence. Appiah-Blay will also serve two-thirds of his sentence in prison.
Tragic Night Fueled by Bravado and Alcohol
Addressing the defendants, Judge Dennis condemned the incident as “45 seconds of violence fueled by bravado and drink.” He lamented that both men, despite being relatively young, should know better than to escalate a minor spat into lethal violence.
The fight broke out after Trei and his friends, celebrating a birthday, clashed with Mawien and Appiah-Blay — two strangers. An argument involving a young woman sparked the flare-up, which briefly cooled before exploding into deadly violence.
Trei Daley’s Life Cut Short
During the scuffle, Appiah-Blay pulled out a knife and stabbed Trei twice in the chest. Despite emergency hospital treatment, Trei was pronounced dead within the hour, leaving friends and family devastated.
This sentencing starkly highlights the grim consequences of knife crime and the urgent need for peaceful conflict resolution.
