Brutal High Street Attack: Two Men Jailed for Assaulting Pensioner
Serhat and Agid Yalcin launched a savage assault on a man in his sixties on a busy High Street in Ramsgate. The attack happened late at night on Tuesday, 1 September 2020, leaving the victim with serious head and arm injuries that needed extensive hospital care.
Violent Mugging Caught on CCTV
The 60-something victim had just used a cashpoint around 1am when the pair followed him. One of the offenders deliberately barged into him. Fearing for his safety, the victim swung his hand at one of the attackers. That’s when Agid, 20, knocked him to the ground.
What followed was a chilling 15-minute ordeal. Both men kicked, punched, and stamped on the victim as he lay helpless. Police were alerted by a CCTV operator and arrested the duo at the scene.
Justice Delivered at Canterbury Crown Court
- Serhat Yalcin, 25, of Norman Road, Ramsgate, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm and was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison on 11 March.
- Agid Yalcin, 20, from Wood Lane, Ashford, was convicted of actual bodily harm and given two and a half years in a young offenders’ institution.
“This was a horrific attack and it is very fortunate the consequences were not even more serious. The violence was totally unacceptable,” said PC Jack Rolfe, Kent Police’s lead investigator.
“We hope the sentences handed down bring the victim some justice as he works to rebuild his life.”
