Tragic Death of Two-Year-Old Sparks Murder Probe
On 27 May 2020, a two-year-old girl was admitted to a local hospital with serious injuries. She was quickly transferred to a London hospital but sadly died two days later, on 29 May.
Police Launch Serious Crime Investigation
Kent Police were alerted as soon as the girl arrived. Two suspects were promptly arrested. Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate took over the inquiry, treating the case with the utmost urgency.
Couple Charged With Murder and Neglect
After a thorough investigation and with the Crown Prosecution Service’s approval, Jan Gholami, 32, and Roqia Ghulami, 31, both with no fixed address, were charged on 24 March 2023. They face charges of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and child neglect.
First Court Appearance Set for Maidstone Crown Court
The accused appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 25 March 2023. Both were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on 28 March to face the charges.
