Two Cops Hurt After Crash on A720 Edinburgh Bypass
Drama unfolded on the A720 last Wednesday night when two police officers were injured during a roadside rescue. The incident happened between the Lothianburn and Straiton junctions at 8pm, when a third car smashed into their police vehicle.
One Officer Hurt on Leg, Another Injured Arm
One officer, who was outside the vehicle, suffered leg injuries and was rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Fortunately, he was released later the same night. The second officer, inside the police car at the time, hurt his arm but did not need hospital treatment.
Eyewitness Account & Aftermath
“Two officers were injured while attending a broken-down vehicle on the A720, Edinburgh City Bypass, between the Lothianburn and Straiton junctions around 8pm on Wednesday, November 18 2020,” said Inspector Roger Park, Edinburgh City Road Policing.
“While the male officers were assisting the stranded driver, another car collided with their vehicle.”
The driver of the broken-down car and the other driver involved were both taken to hospital as a precaution. The eastbound road was closed but reopened around 2am.
Investigation Underway
Inspector Park confirmed a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal, with inquiries ongoing. The smash caused significant disruption on one of Edinburgh’s busiest routes.
