Two crooks jailed after bold Worthing phone shop smash-and-grab!

Brazen Hole-Drilling Robbery Caught on Camera

Robert Jody May, 51, and Joseph Perry, 42, pulled off a daring raid on the Three mobile phone store on Montague Street, Worthing. On March 6, May drilled through the wall of a neighbouring building to get into the stock room while Perry stood watch outside. The burglars made off with phones and accessories worth over £36,000.

Police pieced together the crime from CCTV showing Perry lurking near the town centre hours before the heist, and both men loading stolen goods into a taxi.

Career Criminals Locked Up for Three Years Each

Thanks to the hard graft of Worthing CID, the pair were caught and brought to justice at the Crown Court. Both were convicted of burglary and sentenced to three years behind bars.

  • May, from Whiterock Place, Southwick, has over 50 convictions covering 200 offences, including numerous burglaries, and uses 25 aliases.
  • Perry, from Whitebeam Road, Northbrook, holds 22 convictions for 57 mostly theft-related offences.

Detective Inspector: “Crime Doesn’t Pay”

“Both men went to great lengths to steal mobile phones and accessories in Worthing,” said Detective Inspector Andrew Ricks of Worthing CID. “We understand the impact burglary has on victims and businesses. I’m pleased these prolific offenders are now behind bars.”

This case shows how top-notch CCTV, forensic evidence, and relentless detective work can bust burglary rings. A big win for local businesses and law enforcement!
