Brutal Brick Bashing: Two Thugs Jailed After Leaving Victim in Coma

Two savage robbers slammed a man with bricks and a paving slab before leaving him in a coma. Mohammed Ali and Umair Anys launched the vicious attack on a vulnerable man in Watery Lane, Caldmore, Walsall, late evening on 18 June 2020.

Knocked Out Cold in Violent Mugging

The victim, in his 30s and living with learning disabilities, was walking home around 10.45pm when the pair pounced. They knocked him to the ground, kicking and punching him brutally despite his desperate pleas to stop.

Not content with the beating, the pair rifled through his pockets, stealing his phone, some keys, and just £3 in cash. The terrifying assault left the man unconscious after being hit with bricks and a paving slab.

He spent three days in a coma and, although he has since returned home, he lives in fear and now requires daily extra support.

Police Hunt Leads to Fast Arrests

Police launched a full investigation, studying CCTV and speaking to witnesses. They nabbed 17-year-old Anys within a week. After issuing a public wanted appeal in August 2020, officers tracked down 27-year-old Ali in Newquay, Cornwall, in December that year.

We can’t accept violence like this on our streets and we will always pursue those who commit such awful crimes.”
