Midnight Moped Mayhem: Two Teens Nabbed After High-Speed Chase
Just before midnight on Friday, January 13, Kent Police sprang into action after reports of mopeds being targeted in Castlemaine Avenue. Thieves tried to nick a moped but fled empty-handed — until cops caught up with them less than 20 minutes later.
Chase Through Hazlemere Ends in Arrest
Officers spotted the suspects riding mopeds shortly after the attempted theft. A brief but tense chase ended on Hazlemere Road where two men, both aged 20, were cornered and arrested.
Evidence and Charges Stack Up
- Officers found bolt croppers on the suspects, suggesting a planned theft.
- The moped involved is believed to have been stolen.
- One man from Chatham faces multiple charges including motor vehicle theft, driving under the influence, and possession of class B/C drugs.
- The other, from Gillingham, is charged with reckless driving, motor vehicle theft, interfering with a motor vehicle, and failing to stop.
Both are currently held in custody as police continue their investigations.
