Two Women Nabbed in Major Tesco Shoplifting Spree

Nottingham police struck on Tuesday, 4 July, pulling over two women in a city centre crackdown. Amanda Cunningham, 44, from Lenton, and Gemma Beeby, 39, from Eastwood, were charged on Sunday, 12 March, with a whopping 18 counts of shoplifting.

£15k Theft Ring Targeted Tesco Across Five Counties

The duo is at the centre of a probe into high-value shoplifting from Tesco stores across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, and Northamptonshire. The crimes spanned from 15 April to 3 July 2023.

The haul included mostly large quantities of booze, but also clothing, meat, and washing products. Police estimate the total stolen goods are worth around £15,000.

Violence and Threats Add to Charges

Cunningham faces extra heat with two counts of common assault after allegedly threatening staff during two incidents. Both women appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 6 July and were remanded in custody.

Next Stop: Nottingham Crown Court

The case is due back in court on Thursday, 3 August, at Nottingham Crown Court.

Sergeant Lou Ellis of Nottingham’s city centre Reacher team said: “We know the costly impact shoplifting can have on our local communities and businesses. I want to reassure local retailers we will keep targeting offenders like these. Victims of abuse, threats and violence carry those scars for life. This behaviour is never acceptable.

“We will keep working alongside local businesses to protect them from theft and assault, aiming to drive down this kind of crime.”
