UK longest serving Top cop presented prestigious award

Thames Valley Police’s longest-serving superintendent has been recognised with a prestigious award from her staff association. Superintendent Nora Holford, who is Head of Force Intelligence, received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 1 Superintendents’ Association (PSA) annual conference yesterday (11/9). She has served 32 years as a police officer, having become a superintendent in 2003. She has held some of the biggest and most demanding roles within the force, including 123. She is also a trustee of the charity Circles South East, which seeks to manage the risk posed by high-risk sex offenders. Receiving her award, Supt Holford said: “I have always been proud to be a police officer. I hope that my work, both for my force and for my association, has helped to improve the service we give the public and the way we look after our most valuable asset, the people who work in policing.” Supt Ed McLean, chairman of the association’s TVP branch, said: “It was a pleasure to nominate Nora for the Lifetime Achievement Award for her sustained dedication and commitment over a long and distinguished career. “Her enthusiasm and zest for policing have remained throughout and she has been a role model, a colleague and a friend not just to 1 but to the wider service.” PSA President Chief Superintendent Gavin Thomas said: “I have worked alongside Nora for many years in the Association and her common sense, commitment and willingness to get involved have helped us support many hundreds of colleagues in that time. “I am delighted to be able to recognise her years of service with the Lifetime Achievement Award.” The President’s Awards, sponsored by Police Mutual, are given annually and are judged by the President and Vice President of the association. They recognise the achievements of superintendents and chief superintendents and the contribution they make to policing.
