Bexhill Murder Shock: Man Charged Over Woman’s Fatal Wounding
Man Charged with Murder After Woman Dies
A 48-year-old man from Bexhill has been charged with murder following the tragic death of a local woman last week. Donald Excell, of Seabourne Road, was charged today (18 February) in connection with the killing of 58-year-old Rita Lambourne.
Emergency services were called to a home in Bayencourt South just after 10pm on Wednesday, 12 February. Despite desperate efforts by paramedics, Ms Lambourne was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed and is receiving specialist support.
Suspect in Custody, Others Released
Excell was arrested on scene and appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court this morning, where he was remanded in custody. He faces Crown Court on Wednesday, 19 February.
Two others detained over the incident – a 39-year-old woman and 32-year-old man, both from Bexhill – have been released without charge.
Police Appeal for Public Help in Hunt for Key Evidence
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell called the case “hugely distressing” for Rita’s family and the local community. He thanked the public for their patience during ongoing investigations.
Officers remain on patrol in Bexhill and urgently appeal for anyone with information to come forward. They are especially keen to find two crucial items linked to the attack: a navy blue The North Face bag and an axe believed to be the weapon.
Residents are urged to check bins, gardens, and outdoor areas for these items and report anything suspicious.
