Update: Three Men Remain On Police Bail-in Vandalism Investigation

In an update on the investigation into the vandalism of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree in Northumberland, police have shared new information while three men remain on police bail.

The incident occurred overnight between September 27 and 28, when the tree was deliberately felled in an act of vandalism. Since then, a comprehensive range of inquiries has been ongoing with the support of partners, as officers work tirelessly to determine the full circumstances surrounding the damage and identify those responsible.

Two men in their 30s and one man in his 60s, who were initially arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, are currently on police bail as the investigation continues. However, a teenage boy who was also arrested in connection with the incident will face no further action by the police.

Police remain fully committed to establishing the complete details of the damage and bringing the offenders to justice. They urge the public to provide any new information that could assist in uncovering the truth.

As this remains an active investigation, the police kindly request that the community and online platforms, including social media, refrain from engaging in speculation. It is important to allow the investigation to progress without interference.
