Teen Girl Admits Manslaughter in Tragic Attack
A 14-year-old girl pleaded guilty to manslaughter and perverting the course of justice before the trial began. Due to the defendants’ ages, reporting any details that could identify them is illegal.
Chilling Plot to Lure Olly Ends in Deadly Stabbing
Olly was fatally stabbed on January 3rd in Bugs Bottom Fields, Caversham, just yards from his home. The court heard that after an argument with one of the group, the three teens conspired to lure him to the spot.
Upon arrival, the two boys instigated a fight. The younger of the two, just 13 at the time, pulled a knife and stabbed Olly twice. The attackers then fled, leaving Olly critically wounded. Emergency services tried desperately to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police and Family Speak Out After Heartbreaking Verdict
“I am pleased that the full facts of Olly’s death have now been established and that those responsible for his murder have been held to account,” said Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard of Thames Valley Police.
“Olly’s family have told me he always stood up for the underdog. I hope Olly would feel justice has been done. But this is no cause for celebration.
“The circumstances are horrific and will appal society. A bright 13-year-old lost his life over a childish argument.
“The impact on everyone involved is immense: one life ended, three forever changed, and countless others grieving.”
“I pay tribute to Olly’s family for their courage and dignity throughout this ordeal. Their strength has been remarkable.”
“Thanks also to those who gave first aid and comfort to Olly and his family on that tragic day.”
“Olly’s death is a tragedy that should never have happened. We all must work to protect our children and prevent such heartbreak.”
The three defendants await sentencing at Reading Crown Court on a date to be set.
