Hammer Horror Monster Jailed for 12 Years After Brutal Attack on Teen
James Hemming, 29, from Portsea, was locked up for 12 years today at Portsmouth Crown Court for a vicious hammer attack on a 17-year-old girl. The shocking assault took place on April 11 at a home on Shearer Road, Portsmouth.

Originally charged with attempted murder, Hemming pleaded guilty to wounding with intent – a plea accepted by CPS and police. The attack left the teenager hospitalised for weeks, sparking community outrage.
Massive Police Hunt Leads to Conviction
Detective Chief Inspector Liz Williams said the investigation was intense, with over 80 officers involved and more than 1,000 hours of CCTV footage from 250 cameras analysed. “This was a serious offence with a horrifying impact on the victim,” she said.
“Thankfully this type of horrific, heinous crime is rare. The victim is slowly rebuilding her life. Our hard work paid off and Hemming will be behind bars for many years.”

Portsmouth District Commander Supt Will Schofield added: “This violent attack shocked the local community. I hope today’s sentence reassures everyone that crime like this won’t be tolerated. Thanks to the public for supporting our appeals.”
