Teen Trio Held Over Fatal Sheppey Beach Attack

Police have been given extra time to quiz three teenagers arrested over the brutal assault of a man on a busy Sheppey beach. The victim, believed to be in his 40s, died after suffering severe head injuries in an incident on Sunday evening, 10 August.

The attack happened near Warden Bay Road, close to Leysdown. It’s alleged the man was hit over the head with a large concrete slab during the altercation.

Teens in Custody Await Further Questioning

A 16-year-old girl and two boys aged 14 and 15 were arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday. They remain in custody as District Judge William Nelson at Medway Magistrates’ Court approved extended detention on 12 August.

Witnesses Describe Horror Scene

Eyewitnesses say the man was chased along a sea path before he was attacked. A woman who tried to give CPR told a bystander she saw one of the youths kick the victim in the head. Despite desperate efforts by locals and emergency services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

One visitor on holiday with his 11-year-old son called the attack “shocking” and said he tried to shield his child from the dreadful sight. Police have maintained a cordon around the area, deploying sniffer dogs and forensic teams near the Warden Bay Restaurant.

Community Stunned, Calls for Answers

Local residents expressed shock at the killing. Long-standing visitors and island residents say youth crime and antisocial behaviour have been on the rise in recent years, stirring growing concern.
