Brighton Cop Fired for Sexist Behaviour Towards Colleagues
PC Lochlan Bashford, 23, from Brighton Police Station, has been sacked after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of inappropriate conduct towards female colleagues. The three-day hearing took place at 1 headquarters under the supervision of an Independent Legally Qualified Chair to ensure fairness and transparency.
Repeated Sexualised Comments and Out-of-Line Conduct
Starting November 13, evidence revealed Bashford repeatedly made sexualised remarks and acted inappropriately towards women on duty and off. During the investigation, he was placed on restricted duties. His behaviour was deemed a serious breach of professional standards relating to Authority, Respect, Courtesy, and Discreditable Conduct.
Dismissed Without Notice and Barred for Life
The panel ruled Bashford’s actions amounted to gross misconduct. He was dismissed immediately and added to the College of Policing Barred List, banning him from any future police work.
Police Force Pledges Zero Tolerance on Misconduct
Detective Superintendent Jon Robeson said: “The actions of this officer in this case fell far short of the standards we expect.”
Robeson, deputy head of Professional Standards, stressed the force’s commitment to thorough investigations of all misconduct allegations, especially involving sexual behaviour. He added the force is driving a cultural shift to ensure a safe, respectful workplace free from criminal behaviour, misconduct, and misogyny.
“We want an environment where staff feel confident to report wrongdoing and unethical conduct,” Robeson said, highlighting the push to tackle unprofessional behaviour head-on.
