Heating Engineer Locked Up for 15 Years Over Child Sex Crimes
Gary Woolgar, 51, a heating engineer from Lancing, has been jailed for 15 years for horrific sex offences against a young boy in West Sussex.
Historic Abuse Uncovered After Brave Victim Speaks Out
The Lewes Crown Court jury found Woolgar guilty of multiple charges, including:
- Two counts of penetrative sexual activity with a boy
- Three counts of non-penetrative sexual activity
- Two counts of sexual activity with a child
- Sexual assault by touching a boy under 13
The offences first came to light in 2021 when the victim reported the abuse. Sussex Police’s Safeguarding Investigations Unit launched a probe, leading to Woolgar’s arrest in November 2022.
Victim’s Courage Praised as Woolgar Faces Lifetime Restrictions
The victim, whose identity remains protected, revealed how the abuse left him “frightened and confused,” ongoingly battling anxiety and stress.
Detective Constable Katherine Wilkins said, “This was a complex investigation involving many agencies. We thank the victim for his bravery and all witnesses who helped secure this conviction.”
Woolgar, who had also admitted possession of cocaine and cannabis, will now be a registered sex offender for life and subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Justice has been served, but the impact of Woolgar’s crimes will linger for the victim for years to come.
