Burglar Swipes Thousands Worth of Cigs in Weston-Heist
A thief has been locked up after nicking thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes from a Weston-super-Mare convenience store. The daring raid shook the local community but justice was swift.
Grant Turner Caught Red-Handed and Sentenced
Grant Turner, 38, from Brislington, pleaded guilty to breaking into the Locking Road shop on 31 July. On 2 September, North Somerset Magistrates’ Court threw the book at him, sentencing Turner to six months behind bars. He was also ordered to stump up £2,146 in compensation for the damaged shop.
Police Praise Quick Action and Warn Crooks
“We quickly picked up this investigation which led to a timely arrest and charge of Turner,” said PC Ben Marshall of the North Somerset neighbourhood policing team. “This case shows our proactive policing and partnership working, sending a clear message to businesses that offences like this won’t be tolerated.”
“The impact on small retailers is huge — it disrupts their business and causes distress to owners and staff.”
Avon and Somerset Police’s fast response sends a loud warning: crooks targeting local shops won’t get off lightly. Small business owners in Weston-super-Mare can now breathe easier knowing criminals face stiff penalties.
