Woman Charged with Murder After Body Found Buried in Northampton Garden
A 48-year-old woman has been charged with murder after police discovered a body buried in a garden in Northampton. Fiona Beal was formally charged shortly after midnight today (Sunday, March 20) following a major homicide probe by Northamptonshire Police.
Body Found in Rear Garden After Police Launch Search
Officers were first called to a house on Moore Street, Kingsley, last Wednesday. A thorough search of the property began immediately, involving forensic teams, specialist search units, and a cadaver dog. Yesterday afternoon (Saturday, March 19), the grim discovery was made – a body buried in the back garden.
The remains are believed to be those of a missing 42-year-old man, though formal identification is still pending. The body will be sent to Leicester for forensic examination by a Home Office pathologist.
Investigation Underway Following Arrest in Cumbria
Dozens of officers and specialist staff have been working on the complex case since Beal’s arrest at a hotel in Cumbria early last Wednesday. Det Chief Inspector Adam Pendlebury of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) said:
“Regrettably, I can confirm that a body has been found in the rear garden of the address. We believe it to be that of a missing 42-year-old male, but formal identification has yet to take place. Police officers have been conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area over the past couple of days. This remains a complex and challenging investigation and we are appealing for anyone with information to contact Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 26 of March 16, 2022.”
Next Steps: Court Appearance Scheduled
Fiona Beal is set to appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Monday, March 21. The investigation continues as police urge anyone with information to come forward.
