London Couple Scammed Out of £230k in Investment Fraud

A London couple lost over £230,000 in a slick investment scam run by Haydee Daniel, who has now been jailed for four-and-a-half years. The fraudster, from Henley-on-Thames, was convicted after a four-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court on October 26.

Sick Scam Targeted Vulnerable Family

Detectives revealed Daniel preyed on a poor couple with a sick child, tricking them with false promises of exclusive property deals through a fake Barclays contact. She convinced them their credit wasn’t good enough to buy properties outright, so they needed her as a guarantor.

To prove financial stability, Daniel persuaded the victims to funnel nearly a quarter of a million pounds into a bank account she controlled. They were told the money would be “ring-fenced” and returned once the deal was sealed. Instead, Daniel blew it all on luxury rentals and lavish goods.

No Remorse, Just Lies

PC Evan McLoughlin from the Metropolitan Police’s Economic Crime Unit slammed Daniel’s “complete disregard” for the victims, who were left drowning in debt and destroyed financially. The stress has wrecked their lives and jeopardised their childrens’ futures.

Shockingly, Daniel feigned multiple illnesses to drag out the trial for over three years, including a fake cervical cancer diagnosis. She claimed she only had 18 months to live to gain sympathy – but was actually cancer-free and cured decades ago.

Police Uncover Dark Web of Deceit

  • Phone data tracked Daniel posing as the fraudulent Barclays contact from her home.
  • Over 1,000 pages of WhatsApp chats showed the victims’ blind trust that they’d receive promised properties.
  • Daniel was caught red-handed trying to cover her tracks, deleting group chats just before police interviews.

Daniel’s greed and lies cost the couple their savings, peace of mind, and faith in others. Her sentence sends a clear message to all would-be fraudsters – you will face justice.
