Chloe May Jailed for Fake Rape Claim That Slammed Police Into Action
Chloe May, 24, from Coalville, is facing 18 months behind bars after admitting she lied about being raped by three men in a Loughborough hotel in July 2023. Her false accusation sparked a full-blown police investigation and the arrest of the trio, sending shockwaves through the community.
Police Smash Chloe’s Story with CCTV and Interviews
Detectives soon dug up CCTV footage and victim interviews that didn’t add up. The timeline was busted, and May’s story collapsed under the weight of evidence. The three men were cleared of all charges when police confirmed no rape had occurred.
Top Cop Slams False Claims but Promises Support for Real Victims
“We want to be crystal clear—we take every sexual assault report seriously and investigate thoroughly,” said Detective Superintendent Reme Humphris, lead for Violence Against Women and Girls. “False claims waste resources, hurt innocent people, and can deter real victims from coming forward.”
Humphris explained that false claim prosecutions are rare due to complex vulnerability issues, but in this case, justice had to be served to protect the truth and innocent parties.
Support Groups Rally, Urge Genuine Victims to Speak Out
Specialist sexual violence support group FreeVA called the case “exceptionally rare” and reassured survivors their bravery is never in doubt.
“Our priority is to listen, believe, and support every victim. Nobody should be scared to seek help,” said FreeVA.
