A Cardiff woman has been jailed after trying to sneak cannabis and phone memory cards into Bridgend’s HMP Parc — all hidden inside her mouth.
Caught Red-Handed During Prison Visit
Montana Robertson, 23, got busted during a routine search when she visited her boyfriend at HMP Parc on April 4 last year. She was caught with three grams of cannabis worth £10 and three phone memory cards wrapped in cling film stashed in her mouth.
After her arrest, Robertson blamed “peer pressure” from her partner. She admitted, “I’m 23 and ought to have known better.”
Drugs Seized from Home Too
The police dug deeper and found texts on her phone arranging further smuggling runs. A raid on her Pant Glas home in Pentwyn uncovered cannabis jellies, gelato cannabis, and more green stuff worth about £70.
From Pub Manager to Prisoner
With no previous record, Robertson pleaded guilty at Newport Crown Court to two counts of smuggling listed items into prison and cannabis possession. Her barrister called it an “absolute tragedy,” revealing she lost her steady job managing a pub because of the offence.
The court heard she has since cut ties with her ex and acted out of naive loyalty.
Judge Sends Warning with Jail Time
Judge Matthew Porter-Bryant handed down a 50-day immediate jail sentence. The clear shout: smuggling drugs into prison is a serious offence and will be met with swift punishment.
