Mother Found to Have Killed Her Two Children and Stabbed Partner in Shocking Stoke-on-Trent Case

A grim verdict at Nottingham Crown Court has revealed that Veronique John, 50, brutally killed her two young children and stabbed her partner in a heartbreaking case that has shaken the local community.

Tragic Events Unfolded at Stoke Car Wash and Home

The horrific incident began on 11 June 2023, when emergency services were called to a car wash on Campbell Road, Stoke, following reports of a stabbing. Ms John’s partner was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but has since been discharged. Officers later discovered the bodies of her children, 11-year-old Ethan John and 7-year-old Elizabeth John, at their home on Flax Street, both with severe injuries. Paramedics and police attempts to save them were tragically unsuccessful.

Trial-of-Facts Finds Veronique John Responsible

Ms John, from Stoke-on-Trent, was deemed unfit to plead, meaning she could not stand a normal criminal trial. Instead, the court held a trial-of-facts focusing strictly on whether she committed the acts, not her mental health or guilt. The jury concluded she did commit the attacks. As a result, she has been placed under an indefinite hospital order. If found fit to stand trial in the future, a full criminal prosecution will follow.

Detective Chief Inspector Pays Tribute to Victims and Community

“This case was distressing for all involved. It was traumatic for the local community and has left many devastated,” said Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Hannan. “My thoughts are with the father, family, and friends at this tragic time.”

She also thanked the local community, saying, “I’d like to thank everyone who pulled together to support the investigation and those affected during such desperate times.”

Veronique John’s shocking case remains a grim reminder of the dark tragedies hidden behind closed doors in communities across the UK.
