Woman Fined After Horror Crash Leaves Biker Seriously Injured Near Wareham
A 74-year-old woman has been slapped with a fine and points after a collision near Wareham left a motorcyclist with life-changing injuries.
Crash Details: Horror on Bere Road
Rosemary Anne Staddon-Smith, from Winfrith Newburgh, was driving a black Volkswagen when she turned right into an entrance near the Sika Trail on Bere Road. The move ended in disaster at around 10:25am on Sunday 15 September 2019 when she smashed into a 70-year-old local motorcyclist.
Victim Left With Devastating Injuries
The rider suffered a fractured eye socket, broken leg and arm, and a ruptured neck disc. He required surgery and remains in hospital receiving treatment.
Sentence and Police Warning
At Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on 21 January 2020, Staddon-Smith pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention. She was handed six points on her licence, fined £147, and ordered to pay £85 costs plus a £32 victim surcharge.
Police Constable Mark Palmer said: “Rosemary Staddon-Smith’s driving left her victim with life-changing injuries. He remains in hospital receiving treatment.”
