Epileptic Driver Locked Up After Horrific Multi-Car Crash Leaves Woman Seriously Injured

Adam Stepney, 28, from Worthing, has been jailed for three years following a terrifying multi-vehicle smash in Climping. The crash left a 60-year-old woman with life-changing injuries.

The horror unfolded on the A259 Grevatts Lane around 5.30pm on Tuesday, 14 May 2024. Stepney’s car crossed double white lines, barreling into several vehicles before a brutal head-on collision with the victim’s car.

Dangerous Driving & Hidden Epilepsy Explode Into Tragedy

  • Stepney pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Crown Court to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
  • He was slapped with a four-year driving ban and a three-year prison sentence.
  • Probes revealed Stepney suffered epilepsy and failed to inform the DVLA of recent seizures.
  • He suffered a seizure behind the wheel, lost control, and triggered the devastating crash.

Judge Rips Into Stepney’s ‘Appalling’ Cover-Up

The judge blasted Stepney’s reckless behaviour and deceit, branding the crash “appalling.” Stepney knowingly risked public safety by hiding his condition and getting behind the wheel.

“This was a wholly avoidable incident. Stepney made a conscious decision to drive despite knowing he was not medically fit to do so,” said lead investigator Tudor Wells. “The consequences have been life-changing for an innocent member of the public.”

The victim continues to receive treatment nearly two years on — a grim testament to the deadly dangers of ignoring medical warnings.

Warning to All Drivers: Declare Medical Conditions or Pay the Price

Authorities warn anyone with medical conditions that affect driving to report them to the DVLA immediately. Failure to do so puts lives at risk and carries harsh legal consequences.
