Teen Arrested for Murder After Deadly Newham Blaze
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal fire in Newham. The blaze claimed one life, injured five others, and is being treated as arson.
Community Shaken by Tragic Fire
Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, head of the North East Command Unit, said: “My thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends. Incidents like this send shockwaves through our communities. We understand the deep impact this will have locally and beyond.”
Police officers are now patrolling the area where the fire occurred. Five people were injured but thankfully their wounds were not life-threatening, and all have been discharged from hospital.
Investigation Underway
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command urged anyone with information to come forward. “We are in the early stages of our investigation. Anyone who hasn’t spoken to police yet but has information should get in touch,” she said.
Safety cordons remain in place as enquiries continue. DCI Yorke added: “We thank local residents for their cooperation and echo Chief Superintendent Crick’s advice—any concerns should be raised with local officers.”
