12 Years On, Police Still Hunt Clapham Valentine’s Day Killer

Twelve years after 15-year-old Billy Cox was fatally shot in his Clapham home on Valentine’s Day 2007, the Met’s Trident Legacy Team is pushing hard for new leads. Today, they released a crucial CCTV image hoping fresh witnesses will finally come forward.

Tragic Murder Shatters Brixton Family

On 14 February 2007, Billy left Acre Lane in Brixton around 2.30pm, heading home to Fenwick Place. His 13-year-old sister returned to find him bleeding on the bedroom floor. Despite frantic paramedic efforts, Billy was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest.

With no signs of forced entry, cops believe Billy knew his killer. Now, a CCTV snap from 2.55pm that day shows Billy walking with two men near Landor Road, Clapham—minutes before he was murdered.

Who Is the Mystery Man?

Officers say they know the man in the middle but have yet to ID the second male, furthest from the road. He’s described as light-skinned, wearing dark clothes with a white stripe down his trousers, white trainers, and carrying a distinctive white shoulder bag.

Police urge him to come forward, saying he may hold vital clues to cracking the case. There’s a £20,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of Billy’s killer(s).

Family Plea and Continuing Investigation

“My family and I are still seeking justice for an incident that has torn apart our lives 12 years ago,” says Billy’s mother, Arporn Cox. “I pray someone finds the courage to come forward and help us find peace.”

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah McConnell added: “Time has passed, but we haven’t forgotten Billy. We urge anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV or has information to contact us immediately. Even after 12 years, justice can still be served.”

Previous Arrests Yield No Charges

In June 2007, five men were arrested. Four were held over suspected drug offences and later released. The fifth, aged 20 at the time, was arrested on suspicion of Billy’s murder but released without charge in 2008.
