Rosslyn Primary Mini Police Visit Heartbreaking Knife Crime Exhibit

The Mini Police group from Rosslyn Primary School in Broxtowe took a sobering trip to Nottingham’s National Justice Museum on Tuesday 7 March. Accompanied by their local neighbourhood policing team’s PCSOs, the youngsters visited the gripping Choices and Consequences exhibition.

Powerful Knife Crime Workshop Hits Home

Since June 2019, the Justice Museum has worked with The Ben Kinsella Trust to deliver this hard-hitting two-hour knife crime prevention workshop. Set inside the museum’s Edwardian police station, it tells the tragic story of Ben Kinsella, who was fatally stabbed in 2008 at just 16 years old.

The exhibition aims to make children and young people think twice before carrying a knife, showing the devastating impact and encouraging smarter choices to avoid falling victim to knife crime.

Firsthand Heartbreak from Ben’s Family

The Mini Police, proudly wearing their special tabards and caps, absorbed heartbreaking video messages from Ben’s family and friends, who shared their pain after losing a beloved son, brother, and mate.

The children also:

  • Answered questions about knife crime
  • Sat inside the old police station cells
  • Watched real CCTV footage showing the aftermath of Ben’s stabbing
  • Learned about knife crime laws

They left the museum with a chilling new awareness of the dangers knife crime poses.

PCSO: Education Is Key to Prevention

“Our job isn’t just to catch criminals—it’s to educate young people,” said PCSO Rachael Mason of Nottinghamshire Police. “We often attend scenes where families are shattered by knife crime.

“This exhibit is eye-opening. Hearing directly from Ben’s family about their loss is heartbreaking but crucial for youngsters to understand the consequences.

“The children asked brilliant questions and left with a fresh perspective on what could happen if they get involved in crime. Thanks to the museum staff for guiding them through this tough but vital experience.”
