Masked Gunman Shoots Man in Derry Woods

Detectives in Derry/Londonderry are hunting a masked shooter after a man was blasted in the leg last night. The victim, a man in his thirties, was targeted just after 9pm near the junction of Whitehouse Road and Coshquin Road in a wooded area close to commercial properties.

Man Rushed to Hospital After Leg Shot

The lone gunman struck quickly, shooting the victim in the lower leg before disappearing. Emergency services rushed the man to hospital, where he remains this morning. Police have sealed off the scene at the busy intersection as the investigation gets underway.

Police Urge Dashcam Drivers to Come Forward

“Our investigation is in its early stages,” said Detective Inspector Lavery of the Strand Road CID. “We want anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting to get in touch.”

“This attack is a clear breach of human rights,” Lavery added. “The victim will carry both physical and psychological scars. These attacks put the entire community at risk – no one should live in fear in their own neighbourhood.”

“Violence like this serves no purpose. Paramedics and NHS workers must be free to care for those in need without threats of harm.
