New Specialist School for Surrey Heath Set to Open in 2027

Surrey County Council has greenlit London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT) as the official sponsor for a brand-new specialist school in Surrey Heath. Frimley Oak Academy will open its doors in 2027, offering education for 11 to 19-year-olds with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Funding Boost and Rapid Growth Plans

The school is funded through Surrey County Council’s Capital Programme and the Department for Education’s Special Free Schools Programme. Initially, Frimley Oak Academy will provide around 60 specialist places, expanding to 170 by 2031/32 to meet rising demand.

Expert Support and Community Impact

Dr Julia Katherine, Surrey’s Director of Education and Lifelong Learning, hailed the project as a vital step in supporting children with additional needs across Surrey. She stressed the importance of having specialist education close to families in Surrey Heath and northern Surrey.

Dr Sam Parrett CBE, Chief Executive of LSEAT, said, “We’re thrilled to partner with Surrey County Council to create a school that will truly transform lives in the community.”

Focused on Inclusion and Future Success

Frimley Oak Academy aligns with Surrey’s Inclusion and Additional Needs Partnership Strategy and their Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Strategy for children and young people. The school’s specialist curriculum and support plan aim to help every pupil succeed academically and transition smoothly into employment.

This collaboration between Surrey County Council and LSEAT marks a significant move forward in providing inclusive, top-quality education for students with SEMH needs in the region.
