Man Busted for Running Migrant Boat from Normandy
The National Crime Agency (NCA) hauled in a 57-year-old man near Lydford yesterday morning (6 December) over claims he smuggled at least ten migrants across the Channel.
Speedboat Used to Shuttle Migrants to UK Shores
The suspect allegedly used a pleasure craft to ferry people from Normandy. On 15 June, several migrants were spotted dashing from a boat as it docked at Slapton Sands, sprinting towards waiting cars.
He was arrested and taken in for questioning by NCA officers.
NCA Cracks Down on People Smugglers
NCA Branch Commander Matt Rivers said: “This arrest follows a lengthy investigation into an individual we believe has been using his boat to bring migrants into the UK illegally.”
He added: “Although using a larger boat might seem safer, any unauthorised Channel crossing is extremely risky. People smugglers care nothing for the lives they put in danger.”
“Targeting organised immigration crime is a top priority for the NCA. We’re committed to disrupting criminal gangs at every stage of these dangerous journeys.”
