London Man Caught Red-Handed at Chatham Station
Police Dog Dougal sniffed out trouble as a 20-year-old Londoner arrived at Chatham railway station around 5pm on Tuesday, 17 May 2022. The suspect tried to flee but was swiftly caught by the Medway Community Policing Team.
Large Stash of Drugs Seized
The officers uncovered a haul of crack cocaine and cannabis during the arrest. The man was one of several stopped at Chatham and Gillingham stations in a crackdown targeting drug and weapon trafficking into Kent.
Operation Sceptre and Rail Safeguards
The swoop coincided with the national anti-knife campaign Operation Sceptre, running until 22 May. British Transport Police and local forces joined forces to keep railways safe, cutting down the flow of harmful substances traveling from London into Kent.
Police Vow to Stamp Out Drug Supply
“Railways are frequently used by drug dealers to bring their harmful substances from London into Kent and neighbouring counties, so it is vital we work closely with our partners to stop them in their tracks,” said Inspector Vanessa Foster of Medway Community Policing Team.
“We do not tolerate drug supply here in Medway or anywhere else in Kent. If people try to sell it here, they will be stopped and arrested.”
Inspector Kasia Filipek from British Transport Police added, “The support of local police forces like Kent Police is essential for successful operations. We work hand in hand with our colleagues to put criminals under pressure wherever they go.”
The arrested man remains under investigation by British Transport Police detectives.
