Japanese Navy Helicopters Collide, One Dead and Seven Missing
Disaster hit the Japanese navy as two SH-60K helicopters collided and plunged into the Pacific Ocean during a nighttime training flight south of Tokyo. Each chopper had four crew onboard. One crew member has been confirmed dead, while seven others remain missing.
Massive Search and Rescue Underway
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) and Air Self-Defense Force have launched an intense search operation. They’ve deployed 12 warships and seven aircraft in a desperate bid to find the missing crew. The Japan Coast Guard has also joined the hunt in the vast ocean.
Admiral Calls for Urgent Investigation
Admiral Ryo Sakai, who heads the navy’s 123 unit, expressed deep sorrow over the incident and vowed a thorough investigation to uncover the cause and prevent future tragedies.
