Festive Drink and Drug Driving Blitz Nets 109 Offenders
The annual Christmas drink and drug driving crackdown has landed 46 drunk drivers and 59 drug drivers behind the headlines. Running from December 1st to 31st, the Roads Policing Unit teamed up with the Road Safety Partnership to slam the brakes on dangerous festive road users.
Three Refused Tests, Four Unfit Behind the Wheel
In addition to those caught red-handed, three drivers refused to provide samples when asked. Four others were reported for driving while unfit to do so. Worryingly, eleven offenders were spotted only after causing road traffic collisions.
Zero Tolerance This Christmas and Beyond
“We take a zero tolerance approach to drink and drug driving all year round,” said Acting Inspector Will Ayres.
“The festive season brings more parties and events, and sadly, more alcohol. Drink and drugs seriously impair your ability to handle the roads and react to hazards.”
“Our team has worked incredibly hard targeting risky drivers. We hope these results reassure law-abiding motorists that we’re cracking down on offenders who put lives in danger.”
Spot a Drunk Driver? Report Them Now
If you think someone is drink or drug driving, don’t stay silent. Dial 999 for emergencies. For non-emergencies, call 101. Give as many details as you can—description of the driver, vehicle, and their direction of travel. Help the police keep our roads safe this season and beyond.
