Serious Crash Closes A31 Near Stoney Cross – Huge Delays

A serious collision has slammed the A31 near Stoney Cross, causing massive delays and forcing emergency services into swift action. The crash happened around 3.30pm on the eastbound carriageway, prompting a response from two air ambulances, three ambulances, and a fire crew from Hampshire Fire and Rescue.

Chaos on the A31 – Eight-Mile Tailbacks

Traffic chaos quickly unfolded as queues stretched for eight miles eastbound. The road is blocked in both directions while officers warn drivers to steer clear. Police say the road closure could last for several hours as emergency crews work at the scene.

Crash Details – Two Injured After Second Car Swerves Off Road

A car was parked on a slip road when its two occupants, a 70-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, stepped out. They were then hit by a second vehicle that lost control and veered off the carriageway. The driver of that second car, a man, suffered minor injuries and was treated on site.

A South Central Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed: “We sent two ambulances, an officer, and both air ambulances (Hampshire & Isle of Wight and Thames Valley) to the scene.”

She added: “The 70-year-old male sustained serious, potentially life-threatening upper abdominal and chest injuries. The 50-year-old female sustained a back injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening. Both were taken to southampton/" title="Southampton" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Southampton General by road, with a doctor from one of the air ambulances travelling with the male patient.

Ongoing Disruption as Rescue Efforts Continue

Meanwhile, westbound traffic slowed as drivers rubbernecked. One lane was shut in that direction to help trapped eastbound vehicles divert safely. Motorists are urged to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.
