Amazon Scam Alert: Fraudsters Cold-Call Customers to Steal Personal Data
Scammers are ringing up Amazon customers, posing as official staff and tricking them into handing over sensitive details. This latest con involves a slick call claiming a “security flaw” triggered an unauthorised purchase on your account.
The Scam Uncovered
The call transfers victims to a fake Amazon worker. They warn a transaction will debit your account tomorrow — even if you haven’t ordered anything.
Next, the fraudster asks for remote access to your computer. Granting this lets them seize passwords, bank details, and more.
The suspicious number often flashing up is 0113169155. But call it back, and you’ll find it’s “not in service.”
Amazon’s Official Warning
Amazon NEVER cold-calls customers or asks for payment or remote access over the phone.
“Do not give any details to the caller, and always verify directly with Amazon by logging into your official account and contacting customer support.”
Stay Safe & What To Do
- Ignore suspicious calls claiming issues with your Amazon account.
- Never grant remote access to strangers.
- Always log into your Amazon account via the official website or app for updates.
- If you suspect you’ve been scammed, report it immediately to Action Fraud.
