Police hunting a lorry driver after fatal M27 smash
Officers probing a deadly crash on the M27 want to track down a lorry driver who was near the scene but hasn’t come forward yet. The horror collision happened at Junction 3 just before 4am on April 12, involving a red Nissan Micra and a white Mercedes Sprinter van.
Tragic Death of Nissan Driver
Tragically, 35-year-old Ionut Balabaneanu, from Bognor Regis, died in hospital eight days later. Since then, the Serious Collision Investigation Unit has been digging deep into the crash circumstances and says a Heavy Goods Vehicle was in the area at the time.
Police Want to Speak to Lorry Driver
Sergeant Adrienne Jerram said: “There is no suggestion this vehicle caused the collision but as it was nearby, we want to speak to the driver. They may have seen something crucial to our investigation.
“They might have seen the vehicles involved before the crash. It might not seem important to them but could make all the difference to us.
If you were on that stretch of motorway at the time and haven’t spoken to police yet, please get in touch.”
Anyone with information can contact Sgt Jerram on 101, quoting Operation Pointer.
