Two people rushed to hospital and a man locked up on suspicion of attempted murder after a suspected arson attack rocked a pub in Armagh, Northern Ireland.
The fiery incident erupted just before 9pm on Monday (18 August) in the Irish Street area. Emergency services were quick to respond, with fire crews dousing the flames alongside police officers.
Police Crack Down, Arrest Made
A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of a fire around 8.55pm. They attended alongside Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service, who extinguished the blaze. Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment.”
“A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody at this time.”

Dáire Hughes, MP for Newry and Armagh, called the attack a “frightening incident” and praised the quick work of emergency services.
“This was a frightening incident for those in the vicinity, and I want to commend the swift response from emergency services. Police will remain in the area over the coming hours as their investigation continues. My thoughts are with anyone who may have been injured or impacted by this incident.”
Investigation Ongoing
The road was temporarily sealed off during the emergency but has since reopened. Police continue enquiries into the cause of the fire, with officers stationed locally to maintain safety and support the investigation.
