Portslade Panic Over “Gun” Turns Out to Be Toy!
Sussex Police sprang into action at 4:30pm after a worried passerby spotted someone carrying what looked like a weapon tucked in their waistband on Southdown Road, Portslade.
Rapid Response Sparks Major Police Deployment
Officers quickly tracked down the suspect, raising alarm with three armed response units, a police dog squad, and even the police helicopter circling overhead. A witness described the scene: “Three armed response vehicles, 1 dog unit and the police helicopter all with guns drawn and fully armoured up.”
False Alarm: Toy Gun Causes Commotion
Thankfully, Sussex Police confirmed the “weapon” was actually a paintball or Airsoft-type gun. The individual was spoken to and given advice on how to carry such items safely to avoid future scares.
Police reassured the public there is no threat to community safety following the incident.
