Over 20 Arrested in Massive Lancashire Police Crackdown
More than 20 suspects were hauled in during a major police operation across Lancashire today, officials confirm.
Crackdown Amid Rising Tensions After Southport Tragedy
Following this week’s heartbreaking incident in Southport and fresh outbreaks of violence nationwide, Lancashire Police prepped for trouble. Anticipating protests and disorder, they slapped dispersal orders on hotspots in Blackpool, Preston, and Blackburn.
The policing blitz targeted Talbot Square in Blackpool, with smaller disturbances reported in Blackburn and Preston. Charges ranged from possession of offensive weapons and bladed articles to conspiracy to commit violent disorder and flouting dispersal orders.
Police Chief Decries ‘Mindless Thugs’ Behind Violence
Assistant Chief Constable Phil Davies blasted the troublemakers, saying: “We have today made a significant number of arrests after tension flared in Blackpool and minor unrest in Preston and Blackburn. In Blackpool, some mindless thuggery was caused by individuals likely from outside the county, hellbent on stirring trouble in our communities.”
He added: “Thanks to a robust policing plan and partnership approach, we swiftly dealt with small flare-ups elsewhere. I want to thank the good people of Lancashire for their support today. Our officers stood firm and will continue to crack down hard on anyone planning disorder.”
Police Stand Ready As Lancashire Braces for Further Unrest
The operation highlights Lancashire Police’s unwavering commitment to quelling unrest and protecting communities amid a tense national backdrop. Officials say further updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
