Met Cracks Down on Covid Rule-Breakers as London Cases Surge
The Met Police are getting tough as Covid-19 infection rates spike dramatically in London. Officers will now move faster to slap fines on those deliberately flouting lockdown laws.
Zero Tolerance on House Parties and Illegal Gigs
This weekend, cops will respond swiftly to reckless breaches like house parties, unlicensed music events, and any dangerous gatherings putting lives at risk. No excuses.
“Londoners and NHS staff have faced one of the greatest tests of our lifetime,” said Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist. “But a small minority continue to make reckless decisions that endanger lives and strain the NHS. We will act fast against anyone who holds large gatherings.”
Fines Now Flying: Recent Rule-Breakers Caught Red-Handed
- A Brent car meet with 14 attendees was busted and fined last week.
- A bar caught still serving customers was swiftly shut down.
- On Monday, officers raided a Southall shisha bar packed with 29 people, where one tried to flee the scene.
The shisha spot wasn’t just a potential Covid hotspot – faulty pipe setup also posed a serious fire hazard. The owner faces a possible fixed penalty.
Police vow to keep a close eye on trouble spots and crack down hard to stop the virus spreading.
