According to eyewitnesses, the trouble began when the security guard challenged suspected thieves inside the store. The confrontation quickly spiralled out of control, leaving the guard with multiple stab wounds.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, with the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service treating the wounded guard before rushing him to hospital. His current condition is still unknown.

An Asda spokesperson said: “We are in contact with our colleague and providing ongoing support. Our thoughts are with him and anyone who witnessed this horrific incident.”
The spokesperson added: “Next week is Respect for Shopworkers Week, and this attack highlights the urgent need for tougher laws protecting retail staff. Violence and abuse towards shop workers must be treated as a separate criminal offence. No one should fear going to work.”
