Shock in Essex as Sir David Amess MP Stabbed to Death
Just after midday today, Essex Police rushed to Eastwood Road North in Leigh-on-Sea following reports of a stabbing. On arrival, officers found Sir David Amess MP with multiple stab wounds. Despite frantic efforts by paramedics, the veteran politician tragically died at the scene.
Suspect Arrested at Scene
A 25-year-old man was immediately arrested on suspicion of murder. Police recovered a knife from the scene and confirm they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack. The investigation is being led by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Counter Terror Command as authorities consider if this was a terror-related incident.

Chief Constable BJ Harrington said, “Today is a tragic day for Sir David’s family, colleagues, and the whole Essex community. Sir David dedicated his life to serving Essex and Southend. His loss is felt deeply.” He added that specially trained family liaison officers are supporting Sir David’s loved ones, and police will work tirelessly to deliver justice.

Police have urged anyone with information or who captured CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage to come forward urgently. “Thank you to the public who alerted us so quickly. We need anyone who saw anything to contact Essex Police on 101,” said officers.
