Fake WhatsApp Text Scam Hits UK – Don’t Fall for It!
Worried that WhatsApp is about to start charging you? Relax, it’s a total con. Scammers are sending fake texts claiming your WhatsApp subscription has “expired” and you need to pay 99p to keep using it. But WhatsApp has been free for years – don’t believe the messages!
The Scam Exposed
Back when WhatsApp launched in 2010, there was a small 99p fee after one year. That was axed years ago, and the app is completely free now. But crooks have somehow got hold of heaps of British phone numbers and are sending out bogus “subscription expired” alerts. The scam message says:
Your subscription has expired. To verify your account and purchase a lifetime subscription for just 0.99 GBP simply tap on this link…
It’s a replay of a con that hit in 2016 – and it’s back to steal info or cash from the unwary.
